Video | Inside Liliana Guerreiro ethical jewellery workshop in the Douro Valley

| This interview was first published in January 2018 on Euronews.

For this new episode of the Savoir-Faire series on Euronews, we head to Porto, Portugal to meet Liliana Guerreiro, a contemporary jewellery designer who is putting a thousand-year-old technique back into fashion.

Our film took us 75 km further north, to Viana do Castelo, where a troupe of traditional dancers waited for us with a surprising welcome. Dressed in folk costumes and covered with pieces of solid gold jewellery, they performed a bespoke traditional spectacle, that quickly attracted a crowd of curious.

We then headed to the designer’s workshop where jewellery by Liliana Guerreiro are made by hand. This work is done entirely by two brothers, among the last to possess this know-how. After them, the line of 4 generations of goldsmith will end.

In her first and new boutique in Porto, the designer unveiled the ‘Elementos’ necklace, which recently won the prize for the ‘best piece of jewellery’ at the Inhorgenta International Fair in Munich.
